Shared note

Lived in Calais France, then moved back to Nottingham when trouble rearedits head in France. Three shiploads of Lacemakers came to Australia, theDucks were on the "Agincourt" which arrived 6 October 1849. Some of theimmigrants came up to theHunter Valley and landed at Morpeth and werecaught in a heavy thunder storm and completely drenched. As they passedthe Trades Arm Inn, their wet appearance caught the attention of somelocal gentlemen who collected some supplies for them. The Duck family moved to Paterson in the Hunter Valley (which became thefocal point for several Lacemaking families) onto the property of E.G.Gory. The Austn newspaper of 1842 noted "onto this apparent piece ofheaven Cory took Thomas duck,Eliz abeth and their eldest son George, asfarm servants with three rations and twenty pounds per year. The rurallife was to the liking of the Duck family. By 1852 Thomas was farming atGresford, and here four more children swelled the family(p.208 " Wellsuited to the Colony", G Kelly) The Duck family had a saw mill at GlenElgin and a mountain nearby was known as Duck's Mountain.
