1903 Commonwealth Electrol Roll, Christian Gisler, Miller in Cambel St Toowoomba 1903 There was also a Mary Cathleen Gisler at the above address. 1903 Tgere was also a Caroline Gisler, domestic duties @ Telford St Toowoomba (Caroline Harvey?????) MAIL ADDRESS: Gisler Road, Kingsthorpe, Queensland, Australia I went to the State Archives at Runcorn today.I ordered a marriage certific ?between Freidrich and Rose Siebert. The only info i obtained was a copy of ?inquest in the death of their daughter,Olga, who accidently was shot by her ?brotherChristain , my .grand father. It was strange looking at the original ?documents written and signed by these people over a 100 years ago.?The assistant was Swiss and very helpful She gave me an email address in ?Bern Switzland. Christians parents were Friedrich Gisler and Rose Euphemia ?Siebert.Friedrichs parents were Christian Gisler and Magdalene Hanni ?,farmers from Unterlangenegg near Thun ,Switzland .Roses parents, ?farmers, from Reichenberg,Prussia,Germany.Charles Siebert andEuphemia ?Steinke.I believe the whole family came to Australia..Do you have any info ?on Friedrich arrival inTownsville in 1872.

The flour mill called Cox Mill at Toowoomba was first owned by Chas Cox from 1864 to 1884. This mill was situated in Rutlven St., it was occupied by the Gisler Brothers from 1884 until 1886 when it closed, why, I do not know.

In 1887, Gisler Brothers took over the Allora Flour Mill then owned by F Kates, ‘Kates Mill’ also known as ‘The Allora Steam Flour Mill’. The three storied galvanised iron mill stood out on the plain, with its twelve horse steam engine drivenby coal from the Allora open cut mines and produced three tons of flour every day. The mill closed in 1892 and burnt down by an incendiary a few months later.

I find it strange that both mills failed! Were they bad business men or just plain unlucky?
