Muriel "Moo" (a nickname bestowed on her by her mother) lived with her parents at Grenfell where her father practised Law. After her parents separated she stayed with her grandparents at Waverley. When her mother married William Langdon shewen t to live with her mother and stepfather at Mourilyan Harbour travelling from Sydney to North Queensland by ship with her brother, After the frightening day the Kanakas at Pyramid rioted Muriel was sent away to stay in Townsville. The family reunited travelling around Queensland and New South Wales following William's work, they finally settled down at Nundah where William ran the "Prince of Wales Hotel". The family lived away from this hotel so the children would not be influenced by those frequented the establishment. Muriel was a gifted musician and studied at the "Queensland Conservative of Music". It was during this time she met her future husband William Henry Miers, a Night Officer on the railway station at Nundah. Muriel affectionately called this young man Willie" although everybody knew him as "Bill." When Bill Miers was promoted to Assistant Station Master Bill and Muriel were married. The couple spent their Honeymoon in Sydney visiting Muriel's grandmother and other family members. Theirfi rst daughter was born at Bundamba. Bill Miers was posted to Forrest Hill where the family again lived in the Station Masters house. It was here their remaining children were born. Life was good to the family in this prosperous small country town until eventually Bill Miers waspo sted. This time to Pialba at Hervey Bay a delightful place to he with a young family. Bill's next posting was Murgon, Muriel had help in the house the children grew into teenagers. Bill was now posted to the Western town of Wallumbilla in the Roma District. Muriel joined in the many local activities. During War Muriel played the piano at dances and fund-raising events. Bill was active in the local Ambulance and othercommun ity affairs. When the Soldiers returned from the active service, two of their daughters married two brothers and their third daughter became a governess at Mt Abundance Station. Bill left the Railway and worked in Wallumbilla eventually obtaining a position with the Vacuum oil Company in Brisbane. First they purchased a house at Holland Park (which they were to lose during the depression). Moved to Park Road and then to Sandgate, a fascinating place for grandchildren to visit as it overlooked the sea. When the tide was out there was golden sand to play on and soldier crabs to chase. When Bill retired Muriel and Bill moved into a cottage on their son-in-law's property at Kuraby. Bill died from a heart attack Muriel now alone visited her many relatives in New South Wales., Then to stay at Kywong Station where one of herdraught ers lived. Muriel decided to live at Wallumbilla near her eldest daughter and her family. Muriel retired to Salam Rest home at Toowoomba which was central for her daughters to visit with her son living nearby. After many very happy yearsliving a t Salam Rest Home, Muriel died aged ninety three and five months exactly.
