I, Amy Jones, Widow and Relict of Captaine Samuel Jones, later of the parish of Stepney in the County of Midd[lese]x, deceased, being in good health and of a sound, perfect and disposing Mind and Memory (for which I bless God), doe this eighthda y of July in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven hundred and Nineteen make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say):
Imprimis.
I Will that all such debts as I shall justly owe at the time of my decease, and my funeral charges and expences, shall in the first place be paid and satisfyed by my Executors hereinafter named.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my five Grandchildren by Dynah Raymond, my late Daughter, deceased, late Wife of Hugh Raymond, Esq. (viz.) to Amy Raymond, Dynah Raymond, Jones Raymond, Bridget Raymond and Susannah Raymond, the Summe of fivehundre d pounds apeice [sic] of lawfull money of great Britain, the same to be paid to and remain in the hands of their Father the said Hugh Raymond to be improved by him for their use till they shall attain their respective ages of one andtwenty years , and then together with the improvement thereof to be paid to them respectively.
Item. I give and bequeath to my seven Grandchildren by my Daughter, Sarah, Wife of Captain Mathew Martin, viz. to Sarah Martin, Samuel Martin, Mathew Martin, Thomas Martin, Mary Martin, George Martin and Amy Martin, the Summe of five hundredpoun ds apeice of like money, the same to be paid to and remain in the hands of their Father, the said Captain Mathew Martin, to be improved by him for their respective use till they shall attain their respective ages of one and twenty yeares,and the together with the improvement thereof to be paid to them respectively.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Two Grandson, Samuel Osborne and James Osborne, children of my Daughter Amy, Wife of Captain James Osborne, the Summe of five hundred pounds apeice of like money the same to be paid to and remain in the hands ofth eir Father, the said Captain James Osborne, to be improved by him for their respective use till they shall attain their respective ages of one and twenty yeares, and then together with the improvement thereof to be paid to them respectively,and
I Will that the several and respective receipts of the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and Captain James Osborne for the aforesaid Legacyes of the their respective Children shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors for the same.
Item. I give to my Sister, Priscilla Wilkinson, the summe of one hundred pounds of like money, and to her three Grandchildren, Christopher Lyell, John Lyell, and Priscilla Lyell, five pounds apeice for Mourning.
Item. I give to my Neice [sic], Dynah Price and my Cousin, ?Gacthsod Focrus, the Summe of one hundred pounds apeice of like money.
Item. I give to my Cousin, Augustine Taylor, the summe of five pounds for mourning, and to my Cousin, Elizabeth, his Wife, the summe of Twenty pounds.
Item. I give to my Cousin, Charles Pargiter, the summe of five five pounds for mourning, and to my Cousin, Amy, his Wife, the summe of Twenty pounds.
Item. I give and bequeath unto Mrs Wyfian for and during the Terme of her natural life, one annuity or yearly summe of Ten pounds of lawfull money of great Britaine, clear of all Taxes and deductions whatsoever, to be paid to her by my Executors hereinafter named by equall Quarterly payments, the first Quarters payment thereof to be made at the end of Three Calendar Months next after my decease; also I give to the said Mrs Wyfian five pounds for mourning.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my old Servant, Joan Harrison, for and during the Terme of her natural life one annuity or yearly Summe of Ten pounds of like money, clear of Taxes and deductions whatsoever, to be paid to her by my Executors byequ al quarterly payments, the first quarters payment thereof to be made at the end of Three Calendar Months next after my decease; also I give to the said Joan Harrison five pounds for mourning.
Item. I give to Susanna Lewis, Wife of Capt[ain]. Thomas Lewis, the Summe of fifty pounds and also five pounds for mourning.
Item. I give to such Servants as shall be living with me at the time of my decease the Summe of Ten pounds apeice.
Item. I give to the Servants that shall be living with my Son in Law, the said Hugh Raymond, at the the time of my decease, the Summe of five pounds apeice for mourning; and to the Servants that shall be living with my Daughter Martin at thetime of my decease, the Summe of five pounds apeice for Mourning.
Item. I give to Nurse Robinson the Summe of Ten pounds and to Nurse Stoner the Summe of five pounds.
Item. I give unto such person as at the time of my decease shall be the Pastor or Minister of the [Baptist] Congregation or meeting at Wapping to which I belong, the Summe of One hundred pounds, and also Ten pounds for mourning, and to his Wife, if he be then marryed, Ten pounds for mourning.
Item. I give to the poor of the same congregation or Meeting the Summe of Two hundred pounds to be distributed to forty such poor persons of that Congregation (at five pounds each) as the Minister and Deacons there for the time being shall judge the greatest objects of Charity.
Item. I give to Mr Keys, Minister of the [Baptist] Congregation or Meeting in Devonshire Square, (if he be living at the time of my decease) the Summe of Thirty pounds and also Ten pounds for Mourning.
Item. I give to Mr Rootsey, one of the Minister of the Baptists Meeting or Congregation at Colchester and Wivenhoe (if he be living at the time of my decease) the Summe of Twenty pounds for mourning for himself and his Wife.
Item. I give to the poor people belonging to the same Congregation the Summe of forty pounds, to be distributed amongst them as the Minister and Deacons there for the time being shall think fit.
Item. My Will and desire is that all the Plate, Linnen, Apparel, furniture and household goods of my late husband, Samuel Jones, and of me the said Amy Jones of either of us shall be divided into three equal parts or shares; one Third part orSha re whereof I give and bequeath unto and amongst my said four Grand-daughters by my said late Daughter, Dynah Raymond, and the Survivors and Survivor of them; and the remaining Two Third parts or Shares thereof I give and bequeath unto mysaid Two Daughters, Sarah and Amy, (that is to say) to each of them one Third part thereof.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my said Son in Law, the said Hugh Raymond, the Summe of one Thousand pounds of lawfull money of great Britain, and to my Sons in Law, the said Captn: Mathew Martin and Captain James Osborne, the Summe of fivehundre d pounds apeice of like money.
Item. I give to the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and Mr John Clayton of St Katherine near the Tower, Sail Maker (my Executors hereinafter named), the Summe of fifty pounds apeice to buy their Mourning.
Item. I give to Captain Thomas Wotton the Summe of Twenty pounds for Mourning
Item. I give to Mrs Rachel Cope the Summe of Twenty pounds for Mourning; and to Mrs Clayton and Mr Samuel Clayton, Wife and Son of the said John Clayton, the Summe of five pounds apeice for Mourning.
Item. I give, devise and bequeath all and every my Messuages, Tenements, Ground and Hereditaments with their and every of their Appurtenances scituate, standing, lyeing, or being within the several parishes of Stepney alias Stebenheath, and StJo hn Wapping, or either of them in the said County of Midd[lese]x which I lately bought and purchased to me and my Heires of Charles Cabour, Esq[ui]r[e], unto my son, George Jones for and during the Terme of his natural life and from and afterthe determination of that estate, I give and devise the same to my said Sons in Law, Hugh Raymond and Capt. Mathew Martin, and their Heires during the life of my said Son George Jones In Trust, to Support and preserve the contingent Remaindersand e states hereinafter limitted from being defeated or destroyed and for that purpose, to make entryes or bring actions as the Case shall require, but nevertheless to permit and suffer the said George Jones and his Assignes during his naturallife to receive and take the Rents and Profits thereof to and for his and their own use, and benefit and from;??and after the decease of my said son George Jones, Then I give and devise the same unto all and every the Children (if more than oneof the b ody) of the said George Jones to be begotten to be equally divided between the, share and share alike, as Tenants in Common, and not as Joint Tenants, and to the Several and respective Heires of the bodye and Bodyes of all and everysuch Children lawfully issueing;??and if one or more of such Children shall happen to due without Issue of his heir of their Body of Bodyes, Then the Share of Shares of him, her of them so dyeing shall be, goe, and remain To the the survivorsor others of the m, share and share alike, as Tenants in Common, and not as Joint Tenants, and to the Several and respective Heires of the Body and Bodyes of such survivors or others of them; and in Case all such Children but one shall happen todye with out Issu e of their Bodye, or if there shall be but one such Child, Then I give and devise the same to such only Child and the Heires of his or her body;??and for default of all such Issue, then I Will that the same shall be, goe, andremain to such perso n or persons and for such uses, Intents and purposes, and in such parts and proportion, manner and forms as, and to whom, the rest, residue and Remainder of my estate both real and personal is hereinafter by me given,devised, and bequeathed, pro vided alwayes;??and it is my Mind and Will and I do hereby expressly declare that it shall and may be lawfull to and for my said son, George Jones, at any time or times during his life by any Writing or Writingsunder his hand and Seale attested by two or more credible Witnesses to Limit or appoint all or any part of the said Messuages, Tenements, Grounds, or Hereditaments and premisses to any Woman or Women which he shall hereafter happen to Marry forthe Life or Lives of such Woman or Women for her or their Joynture or Joyntures either before or after such marriage any thing herein contained to the contrary, notwithstanding provided also; ??and my mind and Will further is that the aforesaidGift, Devise and Bequest hereinbefo re made to or for the benefit of my said Son, George Jones, and his Children as aforesaid, was, and is, soe made upon, and under, the express charge and Limitation following (that is to say):??That in case mysaid son, George Jones, shall not wit hin the space of Three Calendar Months next after my decease, at the request of my said Executors hereinafter named, or any of them, Release all his Right, Share and Interest of, in, and to the said Plate,Linnen, Apparel, Furniture and Household goods by me given to the said Four Daughters of my said late Daughter, Dynah, and to my said Two Daughters, Sarah and Amy, in the proportions aforesaid (by virtue of the Will of his late Father orotherwise), Then and in such Case, I do hereby c harge all and every the said Messuages, Tenements, Grounds, Hereditaments and premisses soe give to my said Son, George, and his Children as aforesaid, with the payment of the Summe of on Thousandpounds of lawfull money of great Britain to be pr ised by, and out of, the Rents and profits thereof as soon as may be after my decease, and to be paid to such person or persons for whose benefit the residue of my estate is directec, or intendedby vertue of this my Will, anything herein contain ed to the contrary thereof, in any wise notwithstanding.
Item. I give and bequeathe unto the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and John Clayton, their Executors and Administrator, the Summe of Two Thousand pounds of lawfull money of great Britain, to be paid within one year next after mydecease , upon this Special Trust nevertheless in them imposed, and to the Intent that they, the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and John Clayton, or the survivors of them, or the Executors or Administrators of such survivor, shall anddoe, as s oon as conveniently may be, after the said Summe of Two Thousand pounds shall become payable and be received, lay out and dispose of the same in a purchase, or purchases, of Lands or Tenements of an Estate of Inheritance in Fee Simplein possessi on, in some convenient place or places within the Realm of England, and shall, and doe, imediately upon, and after, such purchase or purchases, settle, convey and assure the same unto, and for, the uses, Intents and purposeshereinafter mentioned , and expressed (that is to say):??To the use of my said Daughter, Amy, Wife of the said Captain James Osborne, for nd during the Terme of Ninety Nine yeares, if she, my said Daughter, Amy, shall soe long live, withoutImpeachment of Wast, and fr om and after the end expiration or other sooner determinator of that estate then to Trustees (to be for the purpose named), and their Heires dureing the life of my said Daughter, Amy, In Trust to preserve thecontingent use and estate next herein after mentioned from being defeated or destroyed, but to permit her to to[?] the profits thereof dureing her life and from and after the decease of my said Daughter, Amy,??Then to the use of the Heires ofher body, lawfully to be begotten, and fo r default of such Heires,??Then as to one Moiety, or half part thereof, To the use of the Right Heires of my said late Daughter, Dinah Raymond, forever; and as to the other Moiety, or half part thereof,To the use of my said Daughter, Sarah, her Heires and assignes forever; and I do hereby authorize, impower and direct the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and John Clayton, and the survivors and survivor of them and the Executors andadministrators of such survivor from time to t ime and until the said Summe of Two Thousand pounds shall be laid out in the purchase of Lands or Tenements as aforesaid, and to put and laidout (?) the same and every or any part thereof uponSecurityes at Interest,??and my mind and Will is, and I do hereby direct that all the Interest and proceeds thereof shall from time to time be paid to and received by such person or persons as and to whom the Rents and profits of the Lands orTenements therewith to be purchased (if purchased), woul d for the time being belong or appertain by vertue of the Limitations thereof aforementioned,??and futher, my mind and Will is, and I do hereby expressly declare that the said HughRaymond, Captain Mathew Martin and John Clayton, or any of them, their, or any of their Heires, Executoes or administrators, shall not be charged or chargeble with, or accomptable for, any more moneys than they respectively shall actuallyreceive, or shall come to their respective hands by vertue of the Trust s aforesaid, or any other the Turst of Trusts within or any of them imposed by this my Will, nor the one of them for the other of them, or with, or for, the Acts, Receiptsor disbursements, the one of the other, but each of them only for his own Acts, Receipts and disbursements, nor with or for any loss which shall happen of the said moneys, or any part thereof, or any other moneys which shall come to their, orany of their, hands but vertue of any of the Trusts in this my Will, or by r eason of the insolvency of any person or persons to whome the same, or any part thereof, shall be so lent, or in whose hands the same shall be deposited, or any defectin the Title of any Lands or Tenements to be therewith purchased, or on which the same or any part thereof shall be lent or otherwise howsoever so as such Loss happen without their willfull default, and also that it shall and may be lawfull toand for the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and John Clayton, and ever y of them, their, and every of their Heires, Executors and Adminsitrators in the first plce by and out of the premisses to deduct and reimburse themselves all suchLoss, costs, charges, Damages and Expences as the and every of them shall be put u nto , or sustaine for or by reason of the Trusts hereby in them reposed, or the management of Execution thereof, or any other thing in any wise relatingthereunto.
Item. As, to, for and concerning all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of whatsoever the same doth or may consiste, I give, devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof(aft er, and Subject to the payment of my debts, Funeral expences and Legacyes hereby given in manner following (that is to say):??One moiety, or half part thereof, I give devise and bequeath unto the said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin andJohn Clayton, their Heires, Executors and Administrators respectively, In Trust to dispose of the same and of the Interest, proceeds and profits thereof unto, and amongst, all my said Grandchildren by my said late Daughter, Dinah Raymond, orunto suc h one or more of them and at such time or times and in such parts, shares and proportions, manner and forms as the said Hugh Raymond shall by any Writing or Writings under his hand and Seale attested by two or more credible Witnesses,or by his l ast Will and Testament in Writing to be by him signed, sealed and published in the presence of three or more credible Witnesses, direct, limit or appoint; and in default of such Direction, Limitation and Appointment, Then to andamonst all or suc h of my said Grandchildren by my said late Daughter, Dynah as shall be livng at the time of the decease of the said Hugh Raymond, their Heires, Executors and administrators respectively; and if there shall be but one of themthen living, Then to such one and his or her Heires, Executors and administrators respectively;??And the other moiety, or half part thereof, I give, devise and bequeath unto the said Hugh Raymond and John Clayton, their Heires, Executors andadministrators respectiv ely, upon the Special Trust and confidence that the shall and do dispose of the same and of the Interest, proceeds and profits thereof fomr time to time unto such person or person and for such uses, intents and purposes,and in such parts, shares and proportions, manner and forme as my said Daughter, Sarah, Wife of the said Captain Mathew Martin, shall from time to time notwithstanding her Coverture, and whether she shall be sole or marryed by any Writing orWritings under her hand and S eale attested by two or more credible Witnesses or by her last Will and Testament in Writing or any Writing purporting her last Will and Testament, to be by her signed, sealed and executed in the presence of threeof more credible Witnesses, dire ct, limit or appoint, and in default of such direction, Limitation and Appointment, Then to and amongst all and every her Children which shall be living at the time of her decease, their Heires, Executors andadministrators respectively, and if b ut one such Child, Then to such only Child, his or her Heires, Executors and administrators respectively;

in the first place, give and bequeath unto my two Grandchildren, Hugh Osborne and Susannah Osborne, Children of my Daughter, Amy, Wife of the within named Captain James Osborne, the summe of five hundred pounds apeice of lawfull money of greatBr itain, the same to be paid to and remain in the hands of their Father, the said James Osborne, to be improved by him for their respective use till they shall attain their respective ages of one and Twenty yeares, and then, together with theimpro vement thereof, to be paid to them respective;; and I Will and declare that the receipt of the said Captain James Osborne for the aforesaid Legacyes shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors for the same.
Item. I give to my servant Mary Poope, if she shall be living with me at the time of my decease, the further summe of Ten pounds, over and above what she will be entitulted unto by vertue of the devise in my said Will to such servants as shallbe with me at the time of my decease.
Item. I give to the servants that shall be living with my son, the within named George Jones, at the time of my decease the summe of gfive pounds apeice for Mourning; and to the servants that shall be living with my Son in Law,the said CaptainJa mes Osborne, at the time of my decease the like summe of five pounds apeice for mourning.
Item. I give, devise and bequeath All and every my Messauges and Wharfes, Lands, Tenements, Rents, Grounds and Hereditaments whatsoever scituate, standing, lyeing, or being in or near Horsey Downe in the parish of St Olave Southwark in theCounty of Surrey, or elswhere in the same County, which I lately purchased of Thomas ... Esq[uir]e, and Susan his wife, or either of them in te name of Hugh Raymond, Esq[uir]e, my Son in Law, and which have been since conveyed to me with theirand ever y of their appurtenanced unto my said son George Jones, his Heires and assignes, to have and to hold the same and every part thereof unto him, the said George Jones, his Heires and assignes forever to and for his and their own use, andbenefit.
Item. I give and bequeath to my said Son, George Jones, my Coach and Horses, with the Furniture thereto belonging.
Item. My Will and desire is that all the Plate, Linnen, Apparel, Furniture and Household goods of my late Husband, Samuel Jones, and of me, the said Amy Jones, or of either of us, shall be either sold of appraised as my Executors shall in theird iscretions think fit, and that the moneys arising by such sale in Case the same shall be sold or in Case the same shall be only appraised, then all the said Plate, Linnen, Apparel, Furniture, and Household good (whenso appraised) shall bedivided , shared and disposed of unto and amongst the several persons, and in the like parts and proportions, as and to whom the said Plate, Linnen, Apparell, Furniture and Household goods are in and by my said Will by me given and bequeathedand??Wherea s in and by my said within written Will I have nominated the said Hugh Raymond and within named Captain Mathew Martin and Mr John Clayton as and for my Executors, which said John Clayton is suite dead, Now my mind and Will is that mysaid Son, Ge orge Jones, be added to my said other two surviving Executors and I do hereby accordingly make, ordain, constitute and appoint the within said Hugh Raymond, Captain Mathew Martin and George Jones, Joint Executors of my said lastWill and Testamen t; and I do hereby give to my said Son, George Jones, as one of my Executors the summe of fifty pounds for Insuring.
Item.
